Abbey Fowler
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Abbey is a graduate student at Aquinas College in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. She will graduate in May of 2025 as a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor. She received her undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University in 2003 where she studied art, photography, and psychology. Abbey joins the Grand Rapids Specialty Group as an Intern under the supervision of Hannah Sullivan, LMSW, LMFT.
Abbey enters this new career mid-life, after an introspective moment of redefining her identity and life goals. She leaves behind a twenty-year career of building a small design and retail business and is excited to find new meaning in this career change by helping others define their own identities and work through distressing situations.
Abbey plans to specialize in relationships, LGBTQIA+, divorce, co-parenting, sexual health, attachment, life transitions, illness, and age-related distress. She is available to work with adults, older adults, diverse populations, and people together in relationships.
Abbey’s passion is to provide acceptance and advocacy to people in all types of relationship dynamics. Abbey’s therapeutic goal is to understand her client's unique issues and work with them toward understanding emotional reactions and finding new outlooks or narratives on the problem at hand — assisting clients to find a path toward resilience and tools for the future.
Abbey’s core values in therapy focus on understanding attachment, finding meaning and self-actualization, narrating your own story, and encouragement to build empowerment and self-agency
